Munnar lies at an altitude of 5000 ft above the sea level in the Western Ghats in the state of Kerala. Munnar means 'three rivers' and the town lies at the confluence of 3 mountain streams, namely, Muthirapusha, Nallathanni and Kundala.

It is a spectacular hill station and an important center of Kerala's tea industry. Munnar is surrounded by almost 30 tea gardens, which are amongst the highest in the world. Munnar has a thick forest cover and rich in wildlife. Pepper and cardamom plantations can also be seen around in Munnar. Anaimudi, the highest peak in South India is in the vicinity of this town.

Chithirapuram is 10 km from Munnar and retains an old world charm. The cottages, bungalows, old playgrounds and courts speak volume about the magnificence of the colonial era.

Muttupetty is 13 km from Munnar and perched at an altitude of 1700 m. it is famous for the highly specialized dairy farm of the Indo Swiss Livestock Project. Over a 100 varieties of high yielding cattle are reared here. Visitors are allowed to visit only three of the eleven cattle sheds at the farm.

How to Reach

The nearest airport and railway station to Munnar are at Kochi, which is 130 km away. Many buses and taxis ply to Munnar from Kochi, Coimbatore and Madurai. Private taxis and auto rickshaws are available for local travel.
